This channel follows my path, in the beginning with Musica Viva Vocal Enslemble and more recently as educator and tutor.
I use and combine my knowlwdge and experience as a musician, teacher and culturologist to dive deep into the symbolism in Balkan songs. I tend to make it interesting and easy to digest for people from various backgrounds. To make learning and singing these songs a fun and enjoyable experience.
Like in storytelliing, singing and being in close contact with archetypal symbols these songs are filled with, brings us to the different reality and altered state of mind, which in itself brings healing on deeper levels.
I lead various vocal ensembles and groups since 2000. Besides being classically trained musician, I have MA degree in cl. teaching, and MA in cultural studies, I'm exploring shamanism, various healing systems, psychology etc.
If you find these studies of Balkan Slavic songs interesting, useful, or just fun, please support my work and subscribe.Thank you!

Ječam žela, old Serbian folk song (tutorial in English)
Oh, the whole film was my dialog with the blackbird called ‘kos’ in Serbian, while I was trying to explain the song about the girl from Kosovo. Kos- Kosovo, see the synchronicity?
I invite you to sing this beautiful calming meditative song along with me and the ‘kos’.
It's not the mavis, as I said in the film.

Technical singing exercises 1
This is an excerpt from my singing lesson with prof. Silvia Minea. Only one simple exercise, with attention on details, covering all three vocal registers. I take singing lessons sometimes because it is such a wonderfully spent time and a pleasurable experience. I also feel many benefits from this process, like opening the voice physically, singing with ease and enjoying it. What could be more ...
Recording of "Ah, kade e mojto libe" (Macedonian song)
This is a raw material from a studio recording session of traditional Macedonian song. Don't be bothered with the video quality, the man behind the camera was not a professional cameraman. The song is recorded in two takes. We had an opportunity to use a studio and a sound engineer for couple of hours (for free), so I wanted to record as many songs as we could. Some of them were not prepared en...

Local Bunjevac Traditions around Christmas

This is my first film about our local tradition. Maybe I will slowly make a playlist about it, focusing on ancient customs of Bunjevci. It is a huge subject and an interesting process for me as a culturologist. Special thanks goes to Verona Vidaković, for her contribution in this film.

Thank you!!! This is really helpful!
Hvala na klipu. Pesma ima jos jdve strofu. Zbog cega njste i njih uklucii u ovaj video?
Beautiful song, thats for sure. Thanks for sharing and teach us.
Thank you for your kind comment. 🙏
Girls have very nice voices for geography and english teachers, i thought they were music teachers too.Grate for song, listened at pleasure
Yes, they are excellent! Maybe we’ll make a teacher’s school band. 😉
Beautiful song, I found you through looking for an odd balkanians rhythms and I found such a gem. Greetings from Bohemia.
Thank you very much for your kind comment!
The song is very beautiful thank you. Also for anyone listening the rhythm is 7/8 and always in form 3/8+4/8. So count to thre rapidly, then to four, then again to three and so on. You have such resolute rhythmic sense as often I find Serbian folk singers have, which shows when you sing unaccompanied. You even add percussion to be sure :)
Yes, the rhythm is 7/8, a common rhythm pattern here.
Honestly, I really like how you made all these rhythms easier to understand by subdividing them into 2’s and 3’s. It’s interesting how, generally speaking, an odd time signature is essentially created by taking an even number of beats and then adding one extra beat to throw off the rhythm just a little.
You're absolutely correct!
Not always a good way to think about it. For instance, 9/8 is most often felt as 3 sets of 3, so basically like 3/4 with triplet feel. Thinking about it as an even number of beats plus an extra one extra beat at the end would give you a completely different time feel
@@SamChaneyProductions of course! When 9/8 is divided in triplets, it is not an ‘odd’ pattern at all. It is uneven only when it’s divided in 3+2+2+2… or similarly.
This is a beautiful song! Thanks for explain it. I'm from Argentina, and a couple of years ago I've been in Macedonia and Serbia. My great grandfather was from Yugoslavia❤ I love Balkan music and culture.
Thank you! I hope you are singing songs from Yugoslavia!
My Mother taught me this in a sauna when I was little. I didn't know it was wiccan until now (not that it would have affected me occasionally singing it under my breath when out walking or when nervous).
Interesting story! Thank you for sharing. :)
Beautiful song and voice! Another lovely song is Dimitrijo sine mitre
Thank you! I will post a lesson about this song. :)
@@musicavivaserbia Hvala! That will be greatly appreciated!
No they did not come with ottoman empire they found these rithms here in balcans
It may be as you say. I was referring to Slavic tradition, where these rhythms blossomed after Ottoman empire.
@musicavivaserbia B.s. they didn't flourish. We barely survived the Ottomans. Islam dislikes music. Get hoir facts straight. This is our music. Nothing to do with the Ottomans. This us why they brought the GyosybRoma from Asua so that someone can play their Ottoman music
@@RositsaPetrovarjp7 Since some of the viewers were offended by this video, I want to be clear that in no way I'm referring to Greek, Romanian, Bulgarian, or Albanian etc. traditional music. All of the songs I'm referring to in this video are from Serbian and N. Macedonian (shoot me for this, also!) heritage. And these odd rhythms, as well as oriental melodic influences such as oriental minor scale, ARE influences that came to Serbia with Ottoman occupation. Older Serbian traditional music is not characterized by odd rhythms and oriental scales. There are books and studies about this, published throughout the past 100 years, you may check them out.
yaaayyy went reggae again.. awesome, I named this group Marita and friend..
Marita and Sanya. ;)

Dobra pesma i tako svetla pozitivna vibracija

beautiful 💚

I would beg you please to set this unique document and superb performance to be available publicly. Greetings from Belgrade
Well, I have no contact with the members of the group "Svetilen", I do not want to violate their rights. But, let's put it in the air. Pozdrav iz Sombora.
I appreciate the knowledge!!! 👋
O muzică excepțională.
Glad you are back. the world needs you much. Blessed BE! Mazzy USA
Thank you, Mazzy! Blessed be!
Fun stuff :) This is my favorite of Mozart's lavatorial canons. Also the most beautiful song with a lyric about sharting that you will ever hear.
Oh, yes! :D :D
what's the title of the first song you sing for 7/8? thank you
It is Ajde, Jano, a Serbian song. I have a tutorial in English for that one.
Da.
Nebojša is such a great countertenor, although he doesn't practice it at all. He plays and teaches clarinet.
Oho! Ne razbiram. ;)
Why does this sound off to me?
Bravo 👏 very nice ending 😊
Thank you!
To escape feling tired while singing, try to "switch-on" the body hydraulics: relax the entire spine starting from bottom up to top (from the tip of the tail to the occiput inclusive), and allow "the power" of your breath and blood move in the same direction while exhaling ;-)
Oh, thank you for the suggestion!
Couple of days ago I discovered the reason why I was tired while singing - severe anemia. I received a blood transfusion at the hospital.

Lovely.
From me bielia in Polish would indicate she would use some chemicals to wash the plotno (any fabric) from any colour to white.
Yes! "Beleše" is connected with whitening, but in this case no chemicals were involved. Only spring water. That is why I described it as "washing".
@@musicavivaserbia There is a s deep spiritual undertone and true meaning of this song, especially the "whitening" bit. The song is an allegory of Christ's second coming to take his church to the Heavenly wedding. Biljana is the symbolj of that church, of Christ's bride, his followers and believers. Biljana is trying to live a godly life, pure, to go into her marriage white as a virgin, hence the cloth whitening, and care to protect, keep her chastity which followers of Christ try to do (with God's help) - to keep pure from the filth of the world which in the song is symbolised with the passers by (caravan) same as the casual sex relationships. IN old customs, the white sheet turned scarlet after the consuming of marriage and the grroom would show it as a proof of his bride's chastity before marriage.
@@lanapoet1655 Thank you for this insight. I didn't know about its Christian background.
great voice, performance!

This made me burst into tears its so beautiful xxxxx
Thank you for your heartwarming comment!
It’s amazing to learn about the traditions and beliefs of Bunjevci and I’m glad that you will make multiple videos on this topic. Your culture seems very connected to the land that they live on and honours all the blessing that they receive.
Thank you for your kind comment.
Isaiah55:6&7,"Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near.Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts.Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon." Repent, receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior today. This is God's invitation for redemption, Jesus loves you so much and he is the only WAY to eternity.God bless you

Macedonian 7/8
North Macedonian? Greeks (incl. Macedonians) do not use these rythms.
